Parks and Recreation

Central Vallejo has 6 terrific parks to choose from: Washington Park, Richardson Park which is a 12 acres area that features Children’s play area, open turf play areas, picnic tables with BBQs (may be reserved), lighted ballfield (Madren Field), and restrooms. Also Dan Foley Park, a 60 acre area that features the Foley Cultural Center, lighted baseball field, several large, reservable picnic areas with BBQ’s, open turf play areas, Children’s Play equipment, soccer fields, basketball court, fishing dock, nature trail around Lake Chabot, off street parking, restrooms. Smaller Parks also include Gibson Park, Grant Mahoney Park and Fairmont Park.

Weather is moderate and comfortable throughout the entirety of the year. Vallejo has a mild Mediterranean climate that in many ways is a mix between the cooler coastal climate and the hotter-summer interior areas. Vallejo is influenced by its position on the east shore of San Pablo Bay, but is less sheltered from inland heatwaves than areas directly on or nearer the Pacific such as San Francisco and Oakland.

The city recently earned Main Street designation, and as a result its downtown area will receive a host of benefits ranging from on-site training in effective commercial district revitalization, technical assistance, consulting services, networking activities, and site assessments from California Main Street. Travis AFB handles more cargo and passengers through its airport than any other military terminal in the nation. It is also the largest employer in the entire county and greatly helps the area’s overall economic stability.
